1st & 2nd Year Girls Rugby Blitz in Donnybrook

Our 1st and 2nd year girls made the journey to the hallowed turf of Donnybrook on the 28th of February to compete in a highly anticipated blitz.

The girls were coached by two Transition Year students, Holly Goodwin and Ella Andrews. The girls were in a tough group but after a strong warm up they felt ready to take on the teams. At 11am the girls lined the field to play St Andrew's for their first match. Anna Linton managed to gather the ball from kick off and run down the wing to get the first score of the game.  St David's were ahead at half time but Andrew's came back strong scoring 2 tries. Zoe Burke managed to score another try to secure the game for St David's.

After a very strong first performance, the girls were ready to take on De La Salle College in match 2. De la Salle had a strong start but Akvila Lide fought hard to score 2 tries in the first few minutes. After strong defence from Lexi Lyons and Beth Brennan St David's managed to secure another win. St David's went on to secure two more wins which meant they were into the final.

After a inspiring team talk the girls were ready to take on De La Salle in the final. De La Salle managed to get there hands on the ball and get the first try of the match. The girls kept calm and Lexi Lyons ran down the wing to score a try. The score was even but De La Salle did not give up they scored another 2 tries before half time. The second half began and Zoe Burke caught the ball from kick off and scored for St David's. Lexi Lyons went on to score 3 tries to secure the win for St David's!

A huge thank you to the Transition Year coaches and a big congratulations to the girls on their victory.
