On Monday the 25th of November, our 1st Year Boys' Gaelic team travelled the short distance to Eire Óg for their first match of the season. With a selection of both new and experienced players, the team were keen to start the season with a win. The opposition, St. Conleth's, due to unforeseen circumstances were only able to field a team of 8. However, both sides applied themselves wholeheartedly.
At the 11:00 kick off, the opposition had a strong lead scoring the first point of the match. With significant support from the sidelines, the boys came back strong. There was plenty of good communication and passing shown throughout all of the players. Amazing teamwork from John Byrne and Gethin Davies meant that the ball was successfully delivered to the opposition's end resulting in scores.
Conleth’s defence worked hard with multiple saves and some flawless kickouts, defending resolutely despite the wave of David's attack.
At halftime, both teams received an encouraging team talk resulting in excitement to get back to play.
Ultimately, however, our numerical advantage proved decisive and saw David's consolidate the commanding lead and close out the game for a decisive victory.
Thanks to the coaches and in particular the ref, Alan Maxwell.
