1st Year Boys' Soccer team win Wicklow-Wexford Division 1!

On Tuesday 18th of March our First Year Boys took on Wexford CBS in the Division 1 Wicklow-Wexford League final. The lads have been eyeing this fixture all season and they were well-backed with all first years coming out to support the team. After some motivating words from their coach, Mr MacDonnell, the lads were all pumped up for the final.

Right from the first whistle this was an exhilarating, competitive match with Wexford already having proven to be a tough side throughout the season with a series of impressive victories over opposing teams. However, David’s always seemed one step ahead, controlling the game with their blistering workrate and steely determination. In the 27th minute of the game Jack Williams put a great ball into the box with the salmon-like John Bryne leaping up and heading it home to make it 1-0. The stands erupted in celebrations and for the rest of the half, David’s controlled the game, creating a number of great chances.

When the second half began, it was clear that a resurgent CBS had emerged, determined to find a way back into the game. While the Greystones outfit’s attacking line had a starring role in the first half, this time it was the turn of the defensive unit to deliver a clinic in how to shut out the opposition. CBS’ pursuit on goal was relentless, drawing a series of spectacular saves from star keeper Sam Large. In the end the team's hard work paid off when the final whistle blew with David’s closing out the match with a 1-0 win, prompting joyous scenes both on the pitch and the sidelines.

Congratulations to the team and all their coaches for all their hard work and dedication throughout the season.
