On Wednesday 28th of November we were fortunate enough to be joined by a number of our candidates running for the 2024 General Election who graced us with their presence in our school building. Shay Cullen (Independent), Ciarán Hogan (Aontú), Steven Matthews (Green Party) and Minister of Health Stephen Donnelly (Fianna Fáil) were very kind to allow room in their very busy schedules to attend so close to the general election to discuss their visions for Ireland and Wicklow.
We began their visit with tea, coffee and cakes from The Fat Fox. We gave tours of our fabulous building and had very enlightening political and non-political conversations with each candidate.
Then our Fifth and Sixth years eagerly swarmed into the dining hall to hear what our candidates had to say. Each candidate gave a short speech on their policies and viewpoints. There was then a very successful question and answer session, which saw our students share their concerns for our great country and really dissect these politicians' plans to solve them. It was a very insightful visit that was a great tool in trying to get our young people more involved in the world of politics. We are very grateful to all our candidates for coming in.
