On Thursday the 4th of February, our 2nd Year girls and their coach, Ms Courtney, made their way to St Mary's College in Arklow. Ms Courtney led a strong team warm up prior to throw in. Both teams felt confident heading into the first quarter.
St David's starting 5 filled the court as they eagerly waited for throw in. St David's won the ball which led to an excellent run down the wing, followed by a fabulous basket to ensure St David's were the first team to get points on the board. Moya Marrinan made a basket-saving block to keep St David's ahead. Unfortunately, St Mary's scored after just a couple of minutes. Following some great passes and and an excellent run St Davids' were able to make another basket to ensure that they took the lead going into the second quarter.
The girls were confident going into the second quarter. Niamh Hoolahan made a strong run down the wing which led to another score for St David's. Unfortunately, St Mary's came back stronger during the second quarter and they were able to make another 2 buckets which meant the score was even.
The third quarter began and tension filled the air. St David's defence was unmatched as they denied St Mary's the lead. Unfortunately, St Mary's managed to score to take the lead after a few minutes of the third quarter. St Marys scored again but the girls refused to give up hope.
There were some brilliant opportunities and skills on show from the Davids girls. Following an excellent run, Lily Courtney made a basket for St David's. As the game was closing to an end Ella Cheetam made an incredible three point shot to end the game on a high.
Well done to Ms Courtney and the girls for their excellent performance and a massive thank you to the referee, 3rd Year student Beth Deery.
