4E Create Schools Workshop 2023

On the 25th and the 26th of September, Transition Year base class 4E took part in the Create Schools workshop run by Peter Baxter. This workshop involves learning the mechanics which go into creating podcasts and adverts, which all Transition Year students get to experience over a two day period.

On the first day, the students were taught the fundamental elements of podcasting. This includes educating, inspiring, persuading and entertaining listeners. Many well-known podcasts were played and analysed, which contributed to the making of the students' own podcasts. These podcasts were made in groups of four to five pupils, where each group discussed an intriguing topic which they were all interested in.

It is expected that the Create Schools team will publish these podcasts on spotify once all Transition Years have participated in the workshop.

On the second day of the workshop, the primary focus was advertising. During this section, the students were taught all about advertising and learned how to use editing technology to create two of their own advertisements.

The first advert was created individually and the second in teams. Technology provided by the Create Schools team was used to create these advertisements, which was simple and easy to use for everyone. A lot of creative freedom was allowed during the making of these adverts which further contributed to the enjoyment of this module.

This workshop was a very successful experience and was enjoyed by all who took part. Not only did everyone have fun, but this experience has also provided the Transition Years with many new and useful skills through editing and recording their own podcasts and adverts. It’s highly recommended that everyone takes part in this great opportunity as it really was a fantastic experience.
