6th Year 'King Lear' Theatre Trip

A core feature of Senior Cycle English is the study of a Shakespearian play. On Tuesday 15th, our 6th year students had the opportunity to experience the joys of the Bard by watching a live production of one his seminal pieces of work, ‘King Lear’. They departed St. David’s at 11am to travel to the Mill Theatre in Dundrum.

Once they arrived at Dundrum, they had the chance to encounter the fine-dining opportunities offered by McDonald’s Euro Saver Menu as well as some much-needed retail therapy, much to the dismay of their Revolut accounts. After filling their stomachs and emptying their wallets, students eagerly filed into the theatre, excitedly anticipating reliving an all-time literary classic.

Over the next 2 and a half hours, students were treated to an array of incredible performances. The exemplary acting of Lear himself, as well as Edmund, were particularly noteworthy and thoroughly enhanced the rich and intriguing plot. As they watched the famous feud between Lear and his children unfold onstage, the students were able to visualise the play in a way they had never been able to before, bringing what they learned to life. Following the final curtain closing, the exhausted but satisfied sixth years trekked their way back to the buses, full of a new appreciation for Shakespeare’s works after a long but worthwhile day.
