The track and field team had a great day at their cross-country competition this week on Tuesday the 16th of April. There were many events on the day, ranging from running to tug of war.
It was a great start off of the day with the 800m races of the age groups, U14, U15, U17 and U20s. We had a couple of placements by St Davids - Dylan Keane (3rd place) and Charlotte Hudson (2nd place). The next event of the day was the relay where our U14 girls' relay team got 2nd place and our U17 team consisting of Andrew Wall, Luca Kelly, Dylan Gleeson and Sarleya Barnard got 3rd place. However, this wasn’t the only lucky streak that day for this team of TY boys as they came first place in the tug of war along with a third year James Dixon and fellow TY Danylo Biletskyi.
There were many other field activities that we got medals in with Danylo winning 2nd place in Shot Put and Lauren O’Leary winning 4th in Shot Put. For the final two races, there were 100m and 300m sprints. With May Flynn of the U14 girls winning 1st, and a special well done to Laoise O’Gorman and Lena Gleeson winning 1st overall in the 100m finals.
As well U15 boy Lucas O’Shea came 3rd and U17 girl Maria Hassett came third in the 100m sprint. Lauren O'Leary and Eabha Hardie came 2nd and 3rd in the U20 mile race, showing great teamwork and determination.
It was a bright and victorious day for the track and field team with many smiles and team photos to go around when it all came to an end. Well done to the team and teachers, Ms. Foynes and Ms. Dempsey.
