Junior Boys Gaelic Football vs GCC

On the 16th of October 2024 our Junior Boys' Gaelic football team faced local rivals Greystones Community College at Eire Óg. The match kicked off at 10:30 with the brutal weather conditions making it challenging for both sides to establish a rhythm to their play.

A quickly-taken St. David's free kick led to a lovely sequence of play ending with a score from Ciaran Ó Lideadha following an astute pass from Riaghan Hackett. This was capitalised on thanks to a lovely free from Dan to bring us up to 2 points. GCC, however, quickly launched a fightback and after 10 minutes David's found themselves trailing 1-2 to 0-2.

Dan and Ciaran combined brilliantly throughout the game, as did Fionn Clarke Twomey, who made a goal line clearance by pushing the ball over the bar for a point from a GCC free. Aidan made some lovely tackles throughout the game keeping their midfield at bay and Conor Shevlin made a brilliant run, assisting AJ Long to score a lovely point from a tight angle. However, David's experienced considerable pressure and found themselves facing a scoreline of 1-5 to 3 points to GCC at half time.

Mr. Crowe’s inspiration at half time made the difference. In the first 15 minutes of the second half with Dan's lovely free taking and Aidan’s accompanying goal, David's narrowed the gap to 2 points behind, 1-5 to 1-7 GCC. This was followed up, once again, by Aidan who found the back of the net to level up the game. Unfortunately in the last 10 minutes GCC managed to secure a decisive goal to take the lead again. David's never gave up keeping up the pressure to the very end but ultimately fell just short, with a score of 2-5 to 2-12.
