On Thursday the 24th of October Mr Geoghegan’s Junior Girls Gaelic football team recorded an impressive win against Greystones Community College. The match kicked off at 10:00 am in Eire Óg GAA club, though the wet conditions made it a tough match for both sides.
St David's quickly gained the lead with a very early goal from Emily O’Driscoll. This laid down a marker from the St David’s team, who sought to dominate the game from the first whistle. Great team work was on show by the girls to create many scores. Goalkeeper Heather Stokes had a trouble free first 20 minutes due to the hard work of her teammates to keep the play in GCC’s end of the pitch. As the first half came to an end it seemed as though St David’s were out of sight but a very determined GCC side dug deep to secure five goals in the closing minutes of the first half.
Half time score St David’s 9-9 GCC 0-5
When the whistle went for the second half it was an immediate battle between both teams. The play was back and forth between both sides. St David’s found it difficult to find their momentum at the beginning of the second half, playing into a strong wind it was hard to convert scores. GCC had some great play and got a couple more scores to keep them in contention. Eventually St David’s pulled away in the last fifteen minutes of the game securing another great win for this team in their Wicklow campaign.
Scorers included Moya Andrews, Hazel Prendagast, Millie Free, Emily O’Driscoll, Ciara Fitzgerald, Niamh O’Neil, Teegan Mullalley, Poppy Smith, Laoise O’Gorman, Aoibhe Keating, Isobel Keating and Lina Gleeson.
