Junior Girls Gaelic Football Victory Against CCM

On Monday the 4th of November, the Junior Girls' Gaelic Football team faced off against a ferocious Colaiste Chill Mhantáin side in their final group game. The match kicked off around the 11.00 am mark on the Eire Óg grounds.

As soon as the first whistle was blown, the St. David's fullback line and goalkeeper, Heather Stokes, were met with a fierce attack from the CCM forwards, who dominated the game down toward the David's goal for the first ten minutes of the match. CCM managed to secure two points but with a good defence led by Chloe Byrne and some fantastic saves by Heather Stokes, David's directed the ball up the pitch and toward their forwards. The first point of the match was scored by Matilda Gustaffson, leading the way for many more shots over the bar and into the back of the net as the first half progressed. David's secured the ball, keeping the play down toward the CCM goal for the remainder of the match, with a marvellous opening goal from captain Moya Marinnan, and points from Emily O’Driscoll, Lucy O’Leary, Millie Free, Matilda Gustaffson along with further goals from Emily O’Driscoll, Poppy Smith and Niamh O’ Neill, it seemed the match was going in the right direction for the Junior David's Girls as the halftime whistle went.

In the half time team talk, Mr Geoghegan urged the girls not to let the game slip in the second half and to take more shots from further out. As the match resumed for the second half, CCM came out determined to even out the scoreboard. However, long runs from their midfielders ended with savage saves by Heather Stokes, and David's converted the ball back toward the CCM goal. With skillful play from Teegan Mullally in the back line and good placement from the Junior Girls for passing, David's achieved points from Niamh O’Neill and Ella Andrews, followed by further goals from Niamh O’Neill and Poppy Smith, David's fought to secure a win. Finally, as the final whistle was blown, the David's Junior Girls could celebrate a triumphant win over CCM which puts them in a good position to continue further into the Leinster Championship.

A big well done to all the girls on the panel and thanks to Mr Geoghegan for all his hard work with the team.

Full-time Score: 8-14 2-3
