The Junior Girls' rugby team braved an unpleasant day on Thursday to represent their school in a rugby blitz in Energia Park. The Junior Girls played four matches and performed exceptionally.
The first game against Mercy Beaumont saw them earn a well-deserved victory, winning 25-20. Tries were scored by Akvile Lide, Sofia Hansson amongst others. This superb win kept the morale high going into the next match.
The next match was a tough game against a very strong side, The High School Rathgar. There were some very strong tackles and tries scored, but unfortunately for the girls, this one ended in a narrow loss.
However, they came back stronger than ever, resulting in a dominant victory against Ardgillan. Aoibhe Keating had a particularly spectacular game scoring an impressive four tries for the St David’s side. The end score was a 30-20 victory.
At this stage in the day, the girls were on a roll and although some of our good players had to go off due to the other side, Cholaiste Bhríde, having injuries, the girls still had a tremendous victory in tough conditions. At this stage all the odds were against them, wind, rain and the opposing team. This was no bother to our players on the pitch, they embraced it with Emily Courtney, Martyna Majcher and Akvile Lide scoring tries. This led to a final result of 15-5 to St David’s.
Having won 3 out of 4 matches, the girls put in an excellent performance they should be very proud of, Ms. Coleman is also to be thanked for coaching and accompanying the girls on this successful day out.
