On Tuesday, the 3rd of March our Junior Girls took on St Mary's in the first ever Junior Girls' Rugby match for our school. The girls made their way down to Greystones Rugby Club for a 12:15 warmup. With Some motivating words from their coach, Ms Dempsey, the girls were ready for their 13:00 kick off.
From the first whistle this was a tough game for David's, as some impressive attacking plays allowed Saint Marys to take the lead. However, the girls stood strong, not giving up, displaying true grit through a series of good runs and inspired tackles. Special mention goes to Lexi Lyons, who made a brilliant run near half time, slicing through the Mary's defensive line.
From the start of the second half, it was clear the girls were keen to show their resolve, upping their energy levels and putting St Mary's defense under a lot of pressure resulting in more success for David's. This led to David's getting the ball out onto the wing and scoring our first-ever Junior Cup try thanks to Akivle’s great run.
The full time whistle blew at 2:00 and although the team lost overall the girls did St David's proud with their efforts. Standout performances came from Lexi Lyons, Aoibhe Keatings and Akivle. We are excited about what the future holds for the girls in their next fixtures!
