Our friends in Temple Carrig hosted a roundtable discussion on the importance of women in leadership. Head Girl, Aoife Ryan, along with Deputy Head Girls, Freya Duffy and Grace-Anne Hassett, was in attendance and has sent in the following report:
When we arrived at Temple Carrig, we were greeted with a large audience of students from the school's TYs, the politics and society classes, and various other students and faculty members interested in the conversation at hand. We were privileged to be a part of the board of women answering hard-hitting questions, with the Head Girl, Aoife Ryan, representing St David's sitting alongside Temple Carrig Head Girl, Sophie Lumley, as the representation for young women in positions of power. These questions consisted of: what women have inspired you? How have you handled your position of power? And how can we build girls' confidence in a school environment?
The conversation was excellently guided by staff member from Temple Carrig, Susan Andrews, and we had the opportunity to hear from important voices such as Social Democrats TD Jennifer Whitmore, past pupil and podcaster Hannah Boden, Ceoladh Fenelon, a mental health ambassador for Jigsaw, and Siofra Lawless and Sorcha Melia, who are both young influential leaders in women's sport. The conference was then beautifully finished off by an inspiring musical performance from the transition year students in the school. It was an incredibly uplifting day and it was an honour to be invited. We look forward to the continuation of this tradition as something to promote women's voices and encourage these positive conversations about women's achievements.
