The Minor Girls Soccer team played Coláiste Ráithín away on Monday 13th of November, in a thrilling game in the Wicklow-Wexford League that was tense until the final whistle. After a quick warm-up, Coláiste Ráithín kicked off, with St David’s winning possession back quickly. St David’s quickly got into the game, with many close opportunities. Within the first ten minutes they had Coláiste Ráithín scrambling to clear the ball out of the box and St David’s were unlucky when they missed a goal opportunity from inside the box.
More misfortune was yet to come, as five minutes later another chance was just about saved by the opposition goalkeeper, who got a hand on a shot within the six yard and dived on the rebound. The St David's bench were positive that if a VAR was present it would already be 2-0! After more dominated possession for St David’s, the referee blew for half time.
The team kicked off this half, after an inspiring half-time speech from Mr Keogh. They began well. A crowd was now forming on the side of the pitch and St David’s didn’t once drop their heads, and after many close opportunities, they were finally rewarded for their trojan efforts. The goal came within the final five, when a brilliant ball into the box led to a fantastic finish by Poppy S. With a late equaliser, St David’s continued to defend, with renewed vigour, and managed to see out the end of the game with a 1-1 draw. A special shout out to Naoise and Aoife who played particularly well.
Considering they were playing the cup semi finalists, St David’s did remarkably well today, and should be proud of their well earned draw. Keep an eye out for this fantastic team as we hope to see them in the Final!
