On September 24th, we held our annual Open Night in the school. In what continues to be one of the highlights of the calendar, a showcase of school life here at St. David’s was on full display.
Doors opened at 6pm as over 500 parents and future students gathered to experience an evening of discovery. After hours of hard work and preparation, more than half of the current St. David’s pupil population from all year groups were involved in organising individual subject classrooms, conducting demonstrations in labs and on pitches and, of course, countless tours of our recently-completed school building.
In every corner of the school, a snapshot of the variety of experiences on offer in St. David's was displayed. Students and parents were treated to a choice of freshly-made soup and muffins in the Home Economics room, challenged to a set of tricky timeline quizzes in the History room and had the chance to experience a mini-seismograph simulator in the Geography room. Beyond academics, visitors also had the opportunity to sample a brief tutorial in a range of the sports we offer, from rugby to Gaelic football, on our state-of-the-art astro turf pitch, a tour of our fully kitted-out gym and the chance to experience our always-impressive Sports Arena.
Open Night concluded with a series of speeches from key members of our school community. Mr. Carey spoke of the multitude of opportunities offered in St. David's, as well of the values that make the school such a vibrant, warm and welcoming place within the great town of Greystones. In particular, he emphasised the centrality of the four pillars (Academics, Ethos, Arts and Sports) that establish the foundation of the character-forming experiences offered. Colm and Aoife, our Head Boy and Head Girl, discussed their own personal experiences of their time here, discussing how it has played a pivotal role in shaping them as individuals alongside the academic support provided.
Thank you to each and every parent and future pupil who joined us, and for allowing us the opportunity to share just a small fraction of what we get to enjoy on a daily basis - we can't wait for you to join us in St. David's in the coming years.
We would also like to express our appreciation for each student who enthusiastically and diligently helped make Open Night possible, as well as every staff member who worked so hard throughout the last number of weeks.
