On the 15th of January, St David's U16 Girl's Basketball team faced Comeragh College in the Plate Semi-Final. It was an amazing and thrilling game between two very determined sides.
In the first quarter David's opened with an early skilful basket, however, Comeragh responded quickly. David’s took an 8 point lead after trading baskets in the first quarter leading with a score of 16-8. Notably Helena Iglesias Vazquez scored a whopping 3 baskets.
In the 2nd quarter both teams showed their determination to progress to the final. David’s increased to a 9 point lead thanks to a free throw.
Comeragh College put up an incredible fight in the 3rd quarter getting a few baskets back however David's held onto the lead ending the 3rd quarter 32-26. The girls were getting tired from all their hard work, however, they showed extreme resilience and continued to play skilfully.
In the 4th quarter the St David's team played terrifically, defending Comeragh’s relentless attacks and they managed to score 4 baskets. The match ended 42-29. The girls were ecstatic.
All players played incredibly however the player of the match was Helena Iglesias Vazquez scoring a phenomenal 9 baskets. Congratulations to all the players and their coach amazing coach, Ms. Dempsey, for progressing to the finals! Make sure to keep an eye out for this amazing team, especially in the Final.
