Our girls arrived at Wicklow RFC for their plate final against Gorey CS on Monday the 7th of April. The sun was out and it was a great day for a game of rugby. Shortly upon their arrival the girls made there way to the dressing room, got warmed up and were ready for battle.
Gorey kicked off but David’s ran it back at them, winning the first penalty of the game. With an amazing opening few minutes of defence from David’s, Gorey managed to cross the try line but were held up thanks to David’s stellar defence! However, Gorey came back again and scored a well-worked try out wide. With an impressive first quarter from David's under their belts, the girls took a quick water break due to the warm weather. Gorey scored another try but David’s were still well in it and continued to display great teamwork. When the whistle blew for halftime the score was 19-0 to Gorey.
David’s opened the second half with a very dominant attack, with a nice kick just rolling into the dead ball area before anyone could get a hand to it. Gorey replied with a quick attack and got another try. After the secind water break of the game, Gorey scored a few more tries but David’s finished off the game with a lovely, well-worked touchdown from Lauren O’Leary. The final scoreline was 31-5 in favour of Gorey.
After the game there was presentation from Leinster Rugby of the shield and medals for all the players. This was the first ever senior girls shield final. We are so proud of our girls and we hope to continue this success next season! Ms Dempsey had one final huddle with the group and gave them a great team talk, echoed by the captain Holy Goodwin.
Thank you to all the coaches including Ms Dempsey, Ms O’Gorman, and Mr Davies.
