On the 9th of January St David’s Boys T.Y. Soccer Team travelled up to Peamount Astros to face off against Moyle Park College. After a solid warm up and an inspiring speech by the captain Sean McLaughlin the game kicked off.
For the majority of the first half the game was back and forth with both teams having good chances but not taking them, until the closing minutes when the birthday boy, Luca Kelly broke the defensive lines after playing a beautiful pass to Seán Hennelly who made a darting run in behind to then cooly slot it past the keeper.
Coming into the second half David's had a good mentality but within the first few minutes Moyle Park's number 10 ran a nice dribble and put it into the back of David’s net. Not long after, David’s were caught on the break which led to an inevitable goal putting Moyle Park up 1 goal. David’s knew it wasn't over but minutes after Moyle Park’s second goal they won a penalty which put them 3-1 up. David's continued fighting and in the closing minutes Seán Hennelly took the ball down outside the box, beat his man and curled it into the top right corner, intensifying the game. With only a few minutes left David's kept battling with some great chances but were unlucky not to take any. The ref blew up, ending the great game at 3-2 to Moyle Park and St. David’s were out of the competition.
Well done to both teams involved and a big thank you to the St David's management team for getting the team this far.
