On the 24th of October 2024 all students and staff came together in the sports arena to mark the end of the first school term of 2024. Mr Carey started the assembly welcoming everyone and thanking all staff and a number of students for helping out in the official school opening.
A prayer by Deaglan O’Neill was read which helped us all reflect on this past term. Ms O'Sullivan then began congratulating and handing out certificates to students for extracurricular activities and external activities, reflective of the contributions within our community.
The microphone was then handed to Sarah McCloskey and Mia Williams who are joint presidents of the Young SVP Conference. They explained what the organisation is and that they are trying to raise money for Sponsor an African Scholar and we can help them raise it by designing Christmas cards. Cards will be on sale later in the term.
Mr O’Dowd then took the stage and spoke about the new study skills power pack that was launched on Monday the 21st this year. This study skills power pack contains new specific studying techniques for everyone. He finished off by thanking all staff for taking the time to go through it with their students.
Ms Murphy then welcomed Stella Henrys, who spoke about Barretstown, a non-profit organisation that provides residential camps and fun programmes for children with long-term illnesses and their families. Stella then shared her experience there and said how she would really recommend it to all TY students. She also told everybody that there will be a bake sale on Friday the 25th of October, asking if we could bring baked goods in and leave it in the music room to help fundraise.
The microphone was then passed to this year's head boy and head girl, Colm O’Neill and Aoife Ryan. They reminded us all about Friday's Halloween dress up competition. The F1 team then came up to the stage and spoke about their upcoming plans this year. The microphone was passed to Sarah Walker who explained their new competition in search for a new name for the team (winners get a JustEat fifteen euro voucher!).
As part of our Arts programme, Ms. .Gore spoke about a new photography competition. Ms Gore then explained that it can be a theme of your choice and was open to, juniors, seniors and staff.
Ms Cronly and Mr Short were then asked to talk about the sports and arts programme. Mr Short opened up by saying well done to everyone who has gotten involved and encouraged everyone that they should get involved some way or another. He also thanked all staff for the time and effort they put into the sports programme. The Ladies Gaelic Football won their cup on Saturday 19th and they were called up to take a photo with the cup.
The microphone was then passed to Ms. Cronly and she commended everyone for their participation on the arts programme and thanked all the staff as well for all the effort they have put into this programme. She also mentioned the launch of the new digital gallery on Instagram and students can ask her, Ms. Gore or Ms. Carey if they have any interest in putting their artwork up. She finished by encouraging everyone to get involved in any way they can.
Mr. Carey then ends the assembly with thanking everyone for a great first term and thanking staff for all the hard work they have put in these past few weeks and he reminded us all to stay safe over the midterm break.
